We are starting a series of regular “meet-ups” bringing together people excited about web-based social innovation. They’re informal weekend afternoons or evenings where geeks and social innovators can hang out, help each other and share a little wisdom. The first one is on June 6 in Wellington. More>>
A SI Camp meet-up could involve a broad-ranging discussion around a potential opportunity – how we could use web and mobile technology to transform education, for example. We’ll bring in great thinkers in these areas to speak and share, as well as giving people who want to a chance to tell us about what you’re working on.
Another option we’ll test out during our meet-ups is “SI Camp Express”, focusing on a particular social issue – say innovating through recession, or how healthcare and how social technology can be used to make the health care system better and support people to lead healthier lives. During the meet-up, we’ll brainstorm ideas and pick the top 5, then let people choose one to work on for a few hours. We’ll challenge participants to think about how their idea will work in reality: what technology would they use to solve their problem? How would they sustain and grow the idea? What would it be called?
Social entrepreneurs are critical to social innovation in NZ, but need significantly more support and development.
